On November 1, 2024, as part of the Design Day organized by UN-Habitat, Pierre Clément and Mingding Pan represented Arte Charpentier in Wuhan, a city central to our history, where we have designed over 30 projects in the past 40 years. This event, supported by UNESCO, brought together experts from around the world to discuss the challenges of sustainable urban design.
Highlights of the event
Pierre Clément opened the ceremony with an inaugural lecture titled “Methodology for Sustainable Urban Design”. His presentation included:
- 7 principles for a sustainable city: intensity, diversity, accessibility, variety, identity, conviviality, and sustainability.
- 5 challenges for the future: regenerating existing neighborhoods, building with nature, anticipating climate change, designing human-scale spaces, and fostering an economy of sobriety.
The following day, on November 2, Mingding Pan took part in the International Forum on Urban Governance in Wuhan.
During the event, he delivered a lecture titled “Dialogue with History, Vision for the Future”, showcasing examples of eco-design and their harmonious integration with nature.
He also moderated a roundtable discussion with international experts (from China, Australia, Spain, and the United Kingdom) on key topics such as:
- The challenges of urban transformation in China.
- Preserving local communities during renovation processes.
- Integrating new technologies with local cultures.
Commitment to the future
These Design Days provided an opportunity to strengthen our relationships with local stakeholders while highlighting our contribution to sustainable urban transformation and innovation in Wuhan.
